EXECUTIVE TEAMCreative Director
“Curiosity is one of the biggest factors towards discovery, change, and making people truly value a topic. I feel it is important for us to encourage and foster this sense of curiosity within our peers regarding issues we feel are worth discussing and caring about.”

Meet Harper
An enthusiast for direct-action conservation and formerly volunteering internationally in Nicaragua and Ecuador, Harper is pursuing a Bachelor of Environmental Studies. They've always had a love for all animals, from the peculiar and tiny to the elegantly enormous. The variation between species-to-species, social structures, and the unique interactions each species has with the surrounding ecology has always been a point of fascination for Harper.
While their favourite animal may change from month-to-month (sometimes week-to-week!), it often is most consistently a species of bird. By far, however, their favourite birds have always stood out to be either a crow, magpie, or (the heavily underappreciated and mischaracterized!) vulture - which, despite their gross and often antagonized representation, are the core of nature's clean-up crew and have evolved in extraordinary ways to specifically fill that niche!
Native to Vancouver and raised all around British Columbia, Harper often spent their youth camping all along the coast of Vancouver Island, and many of their summers were endlessly spent in the interior of Princeton and Salmon Arm. They've always loved wildlife, but found even greater appreciation after they spent their gap year travelling abroad and volunteering in Nicaragua and Ecuador.
Throughout their travels, the opportunity to volunteer internationally served as a spark and reminder of how much they enjoy volunteering, and opened their eyes to the impact that they were able to make. Their past experiences have shaped their mind today to not only appreciate and respect the wide diversity of natural spaces, but to commit to direct-action conservation work, building a future where these gorgeous and intrinsically valuable spaces are preserved for generations to come.
Today, Harper aims to spread a sense of curiosity and wonder for the environment around us through their work, intertwining their mission with the organization's mission to re-establish a world where both humans and wildlife can co-exist.
A creative visual artist, Harper finds that curiosity is one of the biggest factors towards discovery, change, and making people across wide demographics truly value a topic of interest. Harper states that, quoting Nelson Mandela- “knowledge is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.” As the head of creative direction for the Wildlife Conservation & Ecology Society, they find it critical that people around the world are encouraged and fostered to develop this sense of curiosity within peers, especially regarding issues that are worth discussing and caring about - especially wildlife welfare and the conservation of the natural world around us.
In their spare time, Harper can be found listening to their favourite artists such as Kiltro, Lord Huron, and The Crane Wives, while working on various other visual arts, in a wide variety of crafts and mediums, from standard sketching and painting to embroidery and sculpting!
Regarding their passion for the local environment and improving field skills, they also enjoy actively working on their plant and animal identification skills!
