“I strongly believe that [younger] voices can often be ignored or undervalued due to their lack of time spent on earth; however, sometimes, new eyes can see what we’re all missing.”
-Megan Carlson (2026)
Born and raised in White Rock and Vancouver, Megan spent much of her life in the outdoors, enjoying many of the outdoor activities that the Canadian Pacific coastline is known for. Growing up in British Columbia, much of her upbringing was spent enjoying the local environment.
Her connection to the land is deep-rooted from her summers spent on Galiano Island, BC where she and her cousins spent their time using the beaches and rocky shorelines as a natural playground, allowing her to develop a love for the wildlife she had observed within the sea and sand. Having the opportunity to grow up alongside these animals sparked a passion to learn more about the living entities we share the environment with, and to help protect it.
A former animal trainer with lots of dog kennel work under her belt, her love for all animals grew tremendously over time after having the opportunity to build the bond with animals beyond her pets at home. This work inspired her to make an effort to learn more about animal behaviors and the human-wildlife co-existence dilemma we face today.
Meet Megan
An enthusiast for the wildlife along Vancouver Island, and especially our rocky shorelines, Megan is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary studies,
and recently has now found active involvement in wildlife conservation after taking ENSO 100 in the Fall 2025 semester, where she got to meet the rest of the executive staff members, sharing her passion for the outdoors and wildlife in a way that felt uplifting, fun and healthy - all while actively making an impact on the world.
An aspiring elementary school teacher, Megan finds fascination and love for children's minds, and aims to use her degree in the future to achieve the goal of amplifying youth voices and fostering learning environments where children and youth of all ages can feel heard and respected when expressing interest or concerns, particularly related to ecological concern or wildlife.
She strongly believes that younger voices can often be ignored or undervalued due to their lack of time spent on earth, and states that often, new eyes can see what we're all missing. She hopes that by fostering these environments, adults and children will no longer feel intimidated, but rather inspired and excited to join the conversation and conservation efforts.
In her spare time, Megan can be found camping, snowboarding, or on the water (in any possible way!) She loves surf rock, indie and folk music but also loves artists from the early rock days.
Megan has also previously studied music, and has earned a diploma in Contemporary Music and Technology, with a major in Vocals and Performance at Selkirk College in Nelson, BC, so in her own time, you can find Megan listening to the Beatles, and other artists from the early rock days, or learning, writing, and performing songs around British Columbia! — (check her out!! @ meganzoemusic.com)
